What are your favorites, fiction and nonfiction? What are the best?

The only one I can really think of is Wind.

I enjoyed Master & Commanader. Not just sailing, but the imagery of impenetrable fog being pierced by cannonballs, and solid oak walls suddenly disappearing, shot away, was fascinating. The contrasts between the stultifying calms and terrifying gales, easy sailing and danger around all the time is more realistic than we realize. Lots of little things coming together, tied up with two guys having a good time playing music together. It was kind of surreal, but a lot like the sailing we all do. (except for the gunfire.)

Wind is one of the best sailing movies of all time. In what other movie can you watch Private Joker from Full Metal Jacket race an I 14 with Farris Bueller's sister?

The only thing better than winning the America's Cup is losing it........and winning it back.

How can you forget Captain Ron as a 'sailing movie' ? If you have ever captained a charter boat with paying customers you will be in stitches. The names change but the plot goes on.

The recent Horatio Hornblower series is excellent (6 episodes)

"Damn the Defiant" is a terrific, classic seafaring tale with Alex Guinness and Dirk Bogarde.

The OLD "Mutiny on the Bounty"....great movie.

I've never seen "The
Boy who fell from Grace to the Sea" with Timothy Bottoms. It's "Dove"..Robin Lee Graham's story, Hollywood-ized.
