PS2000 AND 49ER.CA SPONSOR NEW 29ER “SPARK” TEAM IN MONTREAL Keen sailors needed! MONTREAL, QC: Quebec boat builders PS2000 and 49er.ca have just announced that they will be sponsoring a new 29er sailing team. The team will be based out of Montreal’s Pointe Claire Yacht Club, located on Lake St Louis. Numbers are not known yet, but it is expected that half a dozen boats will qualify for the team. This team will be a unique opportunity for sailors to get their feet wet in skiff racing. PS2000 is offering three charter 29er’s for the summer season for only $1500 (+ taxes). This is a great, low-cost way to get into the 29er class. There is, however, a catch: - Sponsored boats must agree to attend all five 29er East Coast Grand Prix events in 2010, including CORK International / 29er North Americans
- Send monthly reports with pictures
- Carry sponsor logos on mainsails
- Promote 29er racing throughout Canada and USA
That’s it! Boats will be available May 1st, 2010 and should be returned on August 20th, 2010. There will be an option to buy (at reduced price) at the end of the season. Sailors are responsible for the maintenance of the boats. The team will be coached by an experienced skiff sailor and will also benefit from high-level guest coaching sessions. Standard race team fees apply as well. Sailors are also responsible for their regatta expenses. This is a great opportunity for young, enthusiastic sailors that want to go fast, to learn, and to experience sailing at the top level on a national and international scene. “I think this is a good idea. The last time this was done, it went on for about 5 good years and brought back 2 Gold Medals at the 2005 Canada Summer Games and Canada's top world result to date,” commented Tyler Bjorn, Quebec Sailing Team Head Coach. “The idea behind this program is to get kids into sailing skiffs again. We want teens sailing skiffs and going fast, and ultimately moving up to the Olympic 49er class, or 29erXX. No one wants to go slow,” said Canadian 49er Class President, Trevor Parekh. Interested teams or athletes should contact Trevor Parekh at trevor@49er.ca . Those that already have a 29er and are looking for a race team to join should also contact Trevor. This is your chance to get into skiffs with no major financial commitment!
