FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DAWN RILEY TO LEAD LAUNCH OF OAKCLIFF SAILING CENTER
New Non Profit Training Center to Raise Level of Sailors and Sailing in the US.

OYSTER BAY, NY, USA Located on the shores of Long Island Sound, Oakcliff Sailing Center is pleased to name world-class sailor and philanthropist Dawn Riley as Executive Director.

“Oakcliff has unique resources, an ideal location near Manhattan and philanthropic backing and I am joining to create a new center combining the best of global and American practices to train the next generation of sailors.”

The Oakcliff Sailing Center (OSC) has a mission of raising the level of sailors and sailing in the United States. Oyster Bay’s waters will be filled with sails as world-class sailing opportunities are offered through match racing clinics and regattas, race-team and individual coaching and skills assessment as well as customizable corporate and team building programs.

Riley stated her goal is to develop the center and to make the not-for-profit organization financially sustainable by the end of 2012. The center already pulls from its significant strengths including;

· An active pool of racing sailors and volunteers
· Location very near of Manhattan
· A physical center which includes a boat shed, storage yard, and meeting areas.
· Oakcliff’s unique fleet; 6 Shields, 6 Melges 24’s, 6 Swedish Match 40s, 2 Farr 40s and a handful of IRC boats as well as classic beauties and support boats.

“The committed philanthropic supporters behind Oakcliff have a long history of involvement in education and athletics in NYC and we conceived the idea of Oakcliff by asking a naive question: Is it possible to train a new generation of great American sailors. With Dawn Riley joining, the answer is ‘Yes it is!’” explained Board Chair David Halliwill.

Acorns:
In addition Oakcliff will launch its Acorn program offered to individuals between the age of 18 and 30 who have shown potential as racing sailors. They will receive 360 degree training; everything from the sponsorship and business sides of sailing to high level match racing skills to proper wet sanding and team management. These individuals must be willing to commit to hard work and to uphold the ethics and quality required to be world-class and then translate that into the marine industry or business. Any graduating Acorn would be qualified to run a 52 foot race boat in Europe, sail in the America’s Cup or Volvo or start a small business in or outside of the marine industry and hopefully come back to support Oakcliff in the future.

Donations and inquires are welcome.
A web site will be active in mid February
