More Etchells Gold for The Laminator! Veteran Etchells competitor (and two-time Finn World Champion) Hank Lammens copped his own weekly double on June 13-14, adding a convincing win at the Etchells Long Island Sound Championship hosted by the Shelter Island Yacht Club in Dering Harbor, NY, to the Gold he mined at last weekend’s Canadian Nationals (http://hudsonyachtclub.com/International_Etchells_Canadian_Championship_June_07_2009.pdf). Stacking Cruel Jane (CAN 1381) with last year’s LIS Champs, eagled-eye Steve Girling on bow and trim specialist Chris Johannessen in the middle, Lammens shot 3 bullets in the six-race series, more than enough to subdue Jamie Mills (USA 1199), who took second on a tiebreaker from Ched Proctor (USA 1227). Rounding out the top five were Tim Keyworth/Rob Hitchcock (USA 1100) and Keith Longson (USA 1303). Building on his storied contributions to Team Smith’s overall win in the 2008/9 Miami Jaguar Series, “The Laminator” should prove a high seed and powerful draw in this summer’s series of East Coast Etchells regattas leading up to the class North American Championships in Toronto, September 15-19.
