Laser SB3 in the States Log-In to Post/Reply

Hi,

The Laser SB3 has proved hugely popular in the UK with a fleet of 70 plus.

I was wondering why the SB3 is not being sold or widely marketed in the States or am I wrong on this matter.

It just seemed odd as Laser is essentially a US company.

Not wishing to teach grandma to suck eggs.

The SB3 is a high performance sportsboat A symetric bow sprit shute, it can be crewed with 3 or 4 and can scream downhill at over 20 knots.

I do not have any commercial reason for asking this I am just curious as to why this hot boat is not being sold in the US.

We don't enjoy sailing on lightweight dinghies, a boat should be comfortable and elegant.

If I can't sit back sipping chardonnay without getting wet or cold then sorry but I'm not interested.
God Bless You

If it's not a J-something or a Melges Americans aren't interested. That's why you get a more rounded sailor from Europe.

thanks team macgregor!

in fact i do run a site and i am a journalist but one of my clients is actually a competitor to sb3 so no not an ad!

for info the sb3 is a fibre glass rocket ship and you hike in not out.

I am just amazed that laser are not marketing in the States and wondered why.

personally my chosen beast is about the 45 foot mark.

Good to see that you are in the hood. Now where is the SB3 built? Could that be an issue.

Now where is the SB3 built?

It's built in Malaysia at the DK yard then exported to the UK for resale and distribution.

Looks like a great boat, but seems similar to others...Thompson, Viper, Nomad...(excuse the not-quite-the-same, but you get the idea)....fleet building is a hard thing to do and I can imagine that you can get one or two fleets going with a concerted marketing push and some considerable investment over time...but that would be a difficult business proposition....

However, again, it does look like a great boat.
