The 55th annual Lightning Frigid Digit regatta was held this past weekend, Oct 14-15, at Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis, MD. 41 boats competed in breezy conditions with winds around 15-18 knots on Saturday and starting at 12-15 kts but dying on Sunday. There were several capsized boats and one de-masting but the sailing and competition were good. The 5-race series was won by Jody Swanson Starck (Buffalo, NY), who was the winner in 2002 and was sailing with husband David Starck (winner in 2004) and Cory Sertl. In second place was Allan Terhune (Annapolis, MD), who was also the winner in 2003 and 2005, sailing with his wife Katie Terhune and sister Kristin Terhune. In third place was Neil Fowler (Hyannis, MA) with Todd Johnson and Katie Offerman. Interestingly, these 3 boats had competed the prior week in the Pan American Games Trials hosted by Eastport Yacht Club and had finished in the same order although Dave Starck was the skipper and Jody was his crew in the Trials.
