As Jimmy Buffett said, like Popeye I'll sail a spinach can with a mast stuck in it. Mostly OPB. My current fave is the Mac 26X.

To read posts by liars like you. How could you have sailed on an FT10 in China when the first one isn't launched yet?

Frers 33. Just bought one after 2 years of comparing various boats of similar size and characteristics.

Why in god's name would you buy a Frers 33 out of all the boats available in that size range? What was it about this boat that sold you?

It's true! Why wouldn't you just buy a something smaller and equally fast in light air, such as say a CF 27! Dennis Conner did! See the 'racing on the cheap' thread!

We sail the most boat we can afford... Two years ago, it was a CF-27. But I got tired of humping the outboard on and off the transom: These days, it's a Soverel 33...

It fit my needs. Draft max 6.5', Cockpit seating, Hot water, Relatively fast cruiser, Easy to single or shorthand, Sailing in wind 15-25 kts more often than not and it is offshore capable. Since I have the boat and this forum wasn't around during the hunt, what would you have recommended?

You guys have probably never seen or heard of one but i've got a Jim Young 8.4m.
It's a reasonably high performance monohull, 8.4 long, 3.2 wide, 2.2m draft, Disp. 3500lb
They go pretty well and have very powerfull sail plans. Around about the same speed as a Mumm 30.

Mr. Papa, what are the capsize statistics for the boat shown in your photo? How many have been sold and how many have capsized?

Capsize statistics, 100% crew error. There have been three capsize events, Randy on #2 in California, Charlie on #12 in Flordia, and Dave on #15 in Ohio. To date, twenty R33 catamarans have been built, sixteen are sold.

I have been sailing on the R33 catamarans from hull(s) #1, I own #11. Having first hand knowledge regarding the extensive testing of both beam width and spar height, the R33 One-Design at 14'beam and 48'mast is the racing model. The R33 can be configured for the local conditions (higher winds = wider beam & the 60% main; lower winds = less beam and full main). The 14' and 16' beam configurations fit on the trailer; a class racing R33 should carry both configurations.

R33s #2 and #8 are the turbo models at 17'beam and 54'mast.

Here is R33 #5 in Hawaii...

Two people can operate the boat. ORCA rules require three for a daysail and four for overnight racing.

Fascinating. You mean the R33 on the Great Lakes did NOT capsize in 15 knots of wind?

The Trans-Erie capsize event, the third listed above, was Dave on R33 #15. There is a short article about the event in the September newsletter at http://R33.com

The above picture shows the R33 in near perfect form to weather. It was taken in one of the LBYC Wet Wednesday Races this year. It has been really enjoyable racing with the 'PHRF A' fleet in Long Beach

My mother ship is a 1994,Mk I,Fin keel, two stateroom Catalina 42 with the only PHRF rating in Puget Sound... a 122.
My hot rod is a 1968 International Moth I have rebuilt to fun levels. 11' with an 18' mast. Mylar main cut down from an I-14 with full battens. Not class legal but fun!
My board is a 12' Obrien with a centerboard.
My dink is a self built 7'9" pram with a sprit rig that has sailed 3 several times.

Any suggestions how to get my Moth to the anchorage for sailing in the harbors?

Santana 30~30 until she sells. Anybody want to buy a great 30 foot racer-cruiser? After that, not sure. We'll see when the time comes.
