White Bear Sailing School is looking for an experienced dinghy sailor for the position of head high school racing coach. The high school racing program is run out of White Bear Sailing School on White Bear Lake in Minnesota. We have a fleet of sixteen 420s that serves 25-30 high school sailors from local high schools that train together under the same coaching staff. The coaching staff has historically consisted of the head coach and 1 assistant coach, with possible additional on-shore support personnel during practice hours

This is a great opportunity to work at a sailing school with a rich midwestern sailing history. Our sailing school is part of a group of 4 other local sailing schools, and we have a vibrant weekly local HS regatta program. Our high school racing program includes working with 4 (sometimes more) local high schools with steady team membership, a friendly cooperative atmosphere, enthusiasm for competition, and a mix of novice sailors and sailors that have competed nationally.

For the successful candidate, further employment opportunities at the sailing school may be possible.

• An anticipated 15-25 hours per week
• Daily on the water coaching from 3:30-6:30PM
• Weekend coaching duties that can be shared with the assistant coach, including weekend travelling events and Saturday local events
• Organizing regatta participation for sailors
• Managing 2 high school regattas in the fall
• Working with novice and experienced sailors
• Talking with and meeting with parents, sailors, and other local coaches

• Successful high school racing experience; college racing experience preferred
• Knowledge of HS sailing rules and regulations preferred
• Previous coaching experience preferred
• Enthusiasm for coaching HS sailors
• Ability to collaborate with sailors, parents and other local coaches
• Ability to delegate responsibilities
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Must be available to start mid- to late-August. Our Fall season runs through mid-November depending on our teams’ results in regional and national qualifiers. Our Spring season runs from approximately mid-March through the end of May.
