Position Description: The Paint and Fiberglass Technician is a hands on position on the shop floor, yard and docks. Responsibilities of the Paint and Fiberglass Department Technician include performing quality work in all facets of paint and fiberglass for vessels and projects of all types and sizes, including but not limited to repair work, new construction, paint application (rolling and spraying), sealant application, gelcoat repair, filling and faring, and mechanical painting. Standard projects include but are not limited to repair of all types of hull and deck damage due to collision, fuel tank removal, thruster installation, regular painting with Awlgrip, Alexseal, and matching gelcoat is to be expected. The Paint and Fiberglass Technician must be able to execute repairs from the Paint and Fiberglass Department Manager under ABYC standards. Responsibilities also include maintaining departmental physical plant and facility to BBY standards and beyond. It is key that the Paint and Fiberglass Technician interface effectively and fluidly with the other departmental teams.
Qualifications: The candidate must have a minimum of 1-5 years’ experience working with Paint and Fiberglass in the maritime industry. Individual must have hands on experience, and enthusiasm. The existing crew’s experience in the paint and fiberglass department ranges from 2-20 years. Must be able to work as a member of the technician and craftsman team to maximize efficiency and maintain a high level of excellence.
