Marlinspike help Log-In to Post/Reply

Anybody have a better guide on how to properly use a marlinspike knife? I got this one for my birthday but this guide doesn't really give me good instructions: http://www.bestsailingknife.com/how-to-use-a-marlinspike/

Something with animations would be super useful. I feel like I'm the old dog trying to learn a new trick. I guess it's not new to most of you though!

Is it weird no one has commented on this?
What question in particular do you have?
I don't even carry one of these anymore, I've gone to a multi-tool, a Leatherman Wave. I've spent a lot of times on boats and amazingly have never had to cut a line in anger--only when working on ropes. But I have had to tighten a screw or undo a shackle. A spike is nice if you're splicing laid line or undoing a knot but a good knot can usually be untied without it.
