Here is a Key West forecast that Chris Bedford and his team at Sailing Weather Services provided Scuttlebutt, as of January 11th:

Key West Race Week Preliminary Weather
Jennifer Lilly, Sailing Weather Services

Weather for Key West Race Week is rarely straight forward, and this year will be no exception. A week of active and changing winds will favor boats and crews geared for a wide range of winds.

Monday, high pressure is expected to move off the southeastern US coast and into the Atlantic north of Bermuda. This will provide a moderate east-southeast gradient with a good bet for breeze building to the 15-20 knot range. A great start to the week, but there is an outside risk of showers.

On Tuesday, this high will shift further east and a cold front will be moving toward Key West from the Gulf of Mexico. Moderate 12-17 knots pre-front breezes with winds veered toward the southeast and south-southeast. An unstable afternoon left shift may make things interesting. Some showers may arrive late in the day.

Wednesday looks like the trickiest day weather-wise. A cold front will move through sometime during the day, shifting winds from south to northwest and north. There is a good chance of showers and even some thundersqualls, especially in the morning.

On Thursday, the front will move away to the southeast and a high pressure will build over the Gulf Coast. Moderate northerly gradient winds 15-20 knots in the morning will veer toward the northeast and ease through the day. Cooler with mainly sunny conditions likely.

For the final day of racing on Friday, high pressure will pass north of Key West, causing winds to veer right from northeast to east. Moderate winds, 10-15 knots.

Such changeable weather will create changing forecasts!
