INTERNATIONAL SAILING SUMMIT UNITES THE SPORT AND THE INDUSTRY
The 11th International Sailing Summit was held successfully December 3, 2012 at Sandringham Yacht Club, as part of the ISAF Grade One event of Sail Melbourne.
The ISS, which has become “the” networking event for the sailing industry featured high profile speakers such as John Bertrand, Peter Conde, Chris Nicholson, Malcolm Page and former Executive Direct of Sail America, Jonathan Banks.
According to ISS Founder Alistair Murray, Chairman Mark Bergin and Yachting Australia’s Ross Killborn the key takeaways were the agreement with Yachting Australia to develop best practice guidelines for yacht clubs and the formation of a steering group comprising the ISS, the Boating Industry Alliance of Australia and Yachting Australia, with the aim of promoting participation in sailing. The findings and ideas from this group are to be presented at the Marine 13 industry conference in Sydney next April.
Australian Sailing Team gold medallist and Olympic flag bearer in London, Malcolm Page helped promote the theme of turning Olympic successes into increased participation in sailing.
The 11th ISS attracted 100 high quality delegates and was supported significantly by the Victorian Government’s Department of Business and Innovation.
Future Summits will be held as part of Sail Melbourne, but the 12th ISS, to be announced shortly, will be held in San Francisco in August 2013 to enable a high profile sailing industry group to work and network during the America’s Cup.
It will continue the theme of attracting sailing’s industry and sporting legends.
