A point of history-When the British challenged for the Cup in the 1958, my grandfather Herbert C. Pell, a confirmed anglophile, decided that the challenger should also go home with some silver ( he assumed the NYYC would win) and donated a rather large silver cup that has been awarded to the Challenger of Record at every Cup series since then. It is called the Pell Cup,stays with the winner until the next event, and then is given a permanent keeper cup which were donated by my father Sen. Claiborne Pell. The Ida Lewis Yacht Club is the repository and handles the details. The Louis Vuiton folks are very generous and allow us to keep this bit of history alive and attend their ceremonies.-Toby Pell, Newport RI
