Well, the Flying Scots must have done something to disturb the rain gods. The four-day regatta (Tuesday-Friday, March 20-23) at Southern Yacht Club on Lake Ponchartrain in New Orleans, was blown out the first two days. Then Wednesday was spent waiting for thunderstorms to clear out and the wind to pick up, neither of which happened. Not to be defeated, sailors competed instead in how much good food and drink they could consume in the French Quarter. Friday dawned stormy again but we must have done something right because by 9 a.m. the skies cleared, the winds blew (moderately 5-8 mph) and the excellent race committee ran four races.
