Book to teach a newbie racing? Log-In to Post/Reply

Hello all,

My girlfriend learned to sail as a kid, but never raced. I've brought her out for a few races and she's hooked.

Any recommendations on a book that teaches the basics of racing, not just sailing?

Thank you in advance!

'Sail Like A Champion' by Dennis Conner is covers all the bases. If you are curious about a subject, just pick it up and flip to that chapter. It's been out for a long time but I think it's still the best all around book of it's type.

As a matter of fact, an ex-girlfriend has my copy...Unsure

Dave Perry's "Winning in One-Designs" is a great book to start (and continue!) racing with. It's not overly complicated with minutiae, but covers details when they're important. It has a user-friendly tone and he provides lots of examples. Sail Fast!

I don't know that much about sailing and racing but I recommend you to these triathlon team - Boston Triathlon Team. As I'm free with work because of my virtual assistant Philippines that's been doing almost all the work, the team is made up of mixture of professional, pro, beginner, and beginner athletes that enjoy coaching, racing and socializing jointly. The BTT is one of the most revered teams inside the New England area because of our own supportive spirit, willingness to provide back to our sport along with our respect to one another. If this describes the type of crew you would like to associate with.
