Annapolis Community Boating Sets Sail!

Annapolis, Maryland - Lorie Stout, Chairman of the Board of the newly-formed Annapolis Community Boating organization today announced the group’s first introductory sailing programs.

“Wednesday, July 2 is a big day for us,” Mrs. Stout explained. “Fourteen youngsters, aged 5-12, will begin a six-week introductory sailing program at Annapolis Sailing School at the Point at Back Creek. This is the first of our cooperative programs with the Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis. These younger kids will sail from 12:30 to 3:30 for the next six Wednesday afternoons. The older group, including the 13–18 year old club members, will start their program on July 15. That program runs on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:30-7:30 for three weeks.”

“These cooperative programs exemplify our vision of how a community boating center in Annapolis can work,” Mrs. Stout explained. “The intention is to start small, using existing local institutions, like Annapolis Sailing School, and over time build a network of programs that can be combined at a public waterfront facility. We envision the creation of a “home” for many of the existing programs in our area, including Box of Rain, The Brendan Project and the Annapolis Parks and Recreation Department program as well as local high school, college and other community programs. We also plan to include rowing and kayaking. We will be offering lessons and access to boats at a nominal cost. All activities will be under the supervision of certified professionals from local boating and sailing organizations.”
