Sharon Green's Ultimate Sailing Calendar hits

30 year mark, with unparalleled 2012 edition

Santa Barbara, CA, Oct. 27, 2011 - Like fine wine, some things keep getting better with age. Such is the case with Sharon Green's Ultimate Sailing Calendar, as the recent release of the 2012 edition proves Ms. Green has raised the level of yacht racing imagery to new heights.

This dynamic and avant garde collection of photos sweeps the viewer around the globe with a front-row ticket to the most elite sailing events worldwide; with images so breathtaking and brazen, you feel the salty spray of the sea as you turn from page to page. From the impetuous waters of the Bass Straits, to the gaping mouth of the Rio de la Plata: Optis cluster, TP52s pirouette around a buoy, and Extreme 40s clash in a kaleidoscope of hues. A retiring IACC boat makes one final pass around the marks as the desert of Dubai casts a glow across a land so ancient, the sky itself seems tinted sepia. This is Ultimate Sailing.

Ms. Green debuted the Ultimate Sailing Calendar in 1983 and this edition marks the 30th year of production. Each of the twelve distinctive months is illustrated with colorful action photos from Ms. Green and other leading photographers: Carlo Borlenghi, Matias Capizzano, Chris Cameron, Oskar Kihlborg, Christophe Launay, Ian Roman and Sander van der Borch.

2012 Ultimate Sailing Calendar

"The amount of time and energy spent gathering these images is mind-boggling. Traveling to out-of-the-way venues, editing and shooting (not to mention waiting for the right shot ) we log thousands of hours and ten times as many miles in our quest to bring you the Ultimate Sailing Calendar," says Ms. Green. "Like snowflakes, no two shots are ever the same," she continues. "Our 'playground' is a myriad of ever-changing shapes, color, motion, angle, and light, and this year's selection of images proves that."

For three decades renowned photographer Sharon Green has captured the excitement of sailboat racing with her inimitable style: a sublime exercise of color and light, where sails cut windows in the sky, and hulls slash open the sweeping azure water - a result more analogous to art, than sports photography. Whether hovering on a helicopter or knee-deep in brine in a darting RIB, Ms. Green places herself - and the viewer - into the heart of the fray: where you experience the passion, the bustle, and the beauty of yachting at its finest.

Already a successfully published yachting photographer at the age of 18, Ms. Green began compiling her stunning sailing imagines in a calendar in her early 20s. From that foundation - peddling her stock from to door to door - she quickly established Ultimate Sailing as the world's most popular calendar to capture the thrill of yacht racing. More recently, she introduced the 'Making a Splash Not Trash' line of eco-friendly recycled, reusable grocery bags, in support of the Sailors for the Sea Foundation; in addition to a line of sailing sportswear and gear.
