FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 9, 2012 Contact: Chris Snow, 619-226-1415, chris@od.northsails.com Allan Terhune, 410-280-6317, allan@od.northsails.com J/24 North American champion sailor now based in Annapolis, MD North Sails announced today that 2011 J/24 North American champion sailor Travis Odenbach has joined the One Design team at North’s Annapolis, MD sail loft. Travis grew up in Rochester, N.Y., where his family are regulars at the racing scene on Lake Ontario. At a young age, Travis crewed for both his uncle and grandfather who were lifelong sailors and customers of North Sails. Travis started to steer his own J/22 in the local Rochester fleet as a teenager and has been hooked on racing ever since. He continued to campaign in the J/22 and J/24 using all the resources North Sails offered (tuning guides, sail trim advice and one design speed knowledge). Odenbach fine tuned his performance within both classes culminating in winning the 2011 J/24 North American championship last summer in Nova Scotia. “We are very excited to have Travis join our team,” said Vince Brun, president of North Sails One Design. “He adds a new youthful perspective and will help us continue to grow our reach in Annapolis working with Allan Terhune,” Brun said. “Travis and Allan are both very approachable and will be a great team and a powerful resource for one design sailors on the Chesapeake Bay.” “From the beginning of my sailing career, the North Sails One Design team supported me in the J/22, J/24 and other small keelboat classes I sailed in,” said Travis. “Taking a look back on what North Sails has done for me made me realize how important it is to give back to the sailing community and share knowledge. I am proud to be a new addition to the dynamic North Sails One Design group, and I am excited to do my best to share what I can with our existing and potential customers,” he said. Travis comes to North Sails from Waterline Systems in Portsmouth, R.I., where he started as a production assistant (building new boats and prepping others for racing) and transitioned to a role in customer support in the office and at sailing events. Travis will focus on the J/24, J/80 and J/22 classes along with other local boats in the Annapolis market. He will sail at the J/24 Midwinters in Tampa, FL followed by the Sperry Top-Sider St Pete NOOD at the end of February. He will then head directly to Houston, TX to race in the J/22 Midwinters. “I am hitting the ground running for sure but I am very excited to learn more about North design and technology to help keep North Sails the best choice for one design sailors everywhere,” Odenbach concluded. Travis can be reached at our Annapolis, MD office located at 327 Chester Avenue: 410-280-3617 or via email: travis@od.northsails.com. ###
