DATE: October 6, 2011 TO: All Employees FROM: Bill Oakerson SUBJ: Promotion I am delighted to announce the promotion of Margaret Podlich to Executive Vice President and official spokesperson for BoatU.S. Margaret's broadened role in the Association encompasses responsibility for all official external communications, including Public Relations, which will now report to her along with Government Affairs. Margaret will continue to lead Government Affairs and establish the Association's official policy positions and action plans, as she has done the past several years. Richard Schwartz, Nancy Michelman and I have all worked closely with Margaret over the past six years in her role as Vice President of BoatU.S. Government Affairs, developing boating-friendly policies nationwide on behalf of the Association's Members. Prior to that, Margaret served as Assistant Vice President and Director of the BoatU.S. Foundation's Clean Water Trust after starting with BoatU.S. in 1994. Raised in a boating family, she is a life-long boater, and now enjoys a variety of water activities with her husband Steve, and children Sophie (15) and Ben (11) on their fleet of boats. Margaret was a member of the 2006 and 2007 US Sailing Team, racing the 3-woman Yngling, and trying out for the 2008 Olympics. This year, she's competed in the (solo) Laser Master Nationals in Michigan, sailed her 8th Rolex International Women's Keelboat Regatta (finishing 4th) in Rochester, and won the Alice Kelley Ladies Billfish Tournament in North Carolina with the Volvo Penta team. Margaret's passion for boating and "messing around in boats" comes to work each day and it shows in her results, her commitment to BoatU.S. and the boating lifestyle. She is a strong public speaker, a brilliant public policy analyst, and an exceptional advocate for all boaters as well as an effective representative of our Association. Margaret, along with those in Membership and Internet Operations, are reporting to me since Nancy Michelman is out on leave. Also, Magazine Publications and Advertising are reporting to Richard Schwartz and then to me in his absence. Please join me in congratulating Margaret on her promotion and helping her settle in to her new role and expanded responsibilities.
