Major wins for NEB built boats in Transat & Transpac Races! The 2011 Transatlantic Race from Newport to England was a major success for Puma Mar Mostro, Zaraffa, and Snow Lion, all yachts built by New England Boatworks. Since her launch in April, The Volvo Open 70 PUMA-Mar Mostro (puma.com/sailing) designed by Juan Yacht Design (Juanyachtdesign.com) has undergone serious offshore testing in preparation for the upcoming 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race. Early in the Transat, Mar Mostro reached a top speed of 30 knots en-route to a 551 mile day and crossed the Atlantic in 7d 11h 40m to record her first race win. Finishing 1st in IRC Class 1 and 1st in Fleet is certainly a great way to start a Volvo Ocean Race campaign! Winner of Class 3 in this Transat Race was the Reichel-Pugh 66, Zaraffa. Built by NEB in 2000, Zaraffa spent last winter at NEB updating systems and installing an NEB custom carbon bow prod. Snow Lion, the Jason Ker 50, was launched by NEB in 2006 and finished third in this, her second Transat Race in the highly competitive IRC Class 3. Transpac 2011-New Elapsed time Record: This 46th Transpac from Los Angeles to Honolulu was another huge success for an NEB grand prix offshore yacht. Hap Fauth’s Bella Mente was built by and recently modified by NEB for the surfing conditions to Diamond Head. Reichel-Pugh Design (Reichel-Pugh.com) coordinated with NEB on a transom scoop to increase the overall length from 69 to 74 ft plus a longer carbon bow prod. Belle Mente surfed to a new elapsed time course record for non-canting keel boats of 6d 19h 36m. This record cut more than ½ day off the prior record set in 1999 by the Reichel-Pugh 75 Pyewacket. www.NEBoatworks.com NEW ENGLAND BOATWORKS INCORPORATED
