A new smaller, lighter Furlex
Seldén introduces the Furlex 50S - a new jib furling system for 4mm (5/32”) - 5mm (3/16”) diameter forestays.
This is an ideal product for keelboats in the 18’ - 26' range.
The Furlex 50S is a small and light jib furler. Total weight is only 7kg (15.5 lb) for the shortest 4mm (5/32”) diameter version. The drum diameter is only 120mm (4 ¾”).
The 50S has most of the functions found on the bigger Furlex systems. It features stainless steel ball bearings, a load distributor in the composite halyard swivel, distance tubes to center and insulate the forestay wire, stainless steel connecting plates for easy installation, a halyard lead and a prefeeder. It comes complete, including a new forestay wire. Just like it’s larger Furlex cousins, the 50S is easy to buy, easy to install, and, most importantly, easy to furl.
Compared to the bigger units in the Furlex series, the main differences on the 50S are a single groove foil, and a fixed drum. Since boats in this size range normally sail with the jib completely unfurled, the Furlex 50S does not have a tack ring to flatten out a reefed sail.
The Furlex 50S will be available through Seldén’s extensive dealer network in the spring of 2008.
