This October marked the 6th anniversary of the BIG Team Regatta. Thanks to you and the rest of our participants, sponsors, volunteers and sailing school partners, the regattas achieved a milestone. We've helped raise over $500,000 for the youth education and adaptive sailing programs of Kids Set Sail, Reach The World and the Treasure Island Sailing Center. Read on and click the links to get to photos, videos and posted score sheets from this year's San Francisco and Annapolis events. As I look forward to next year, I realize economic conditions may make it more difficult for our long time sponsors to field teams and continue supporting the thousands of children our regattas benefit. On behalf of Gel's great partners, Chicago Sailing, J World Annapolis and OCSC in Berkeley, I'd like to thank you for your help in 2008 and for joining us in looking forward to 2009. Jay Palace Regatta Founder & Cheerleader San Francisco Press Release: Dave Perry and his team from Northrop Grumman took first place in the 2008 BIG Team Regatta, a fund-raiser for the Treasure Island Sailing Center'sl youth and adaptive sailing programs. The regatta, founded 4 years ago by Group Experiential Learning (GEL) and OCSC Sailing, raised close to $42,000 which will fund program scholarships for over 400 children. In addition to Northrop Grumman, 6 other boats competed in the six-race regatta representing PG&E, Mechanics Bank, Lennar, Malcolm Properties, Almar Marine and Hanson Bridgett. With the exception of Mechanics Banks, all of the corporate entrants were returning past sponsors of this great non-profit fund raiser. Click to read more, see photos and video. Annapolis Press Release: The Brick Companies/Atlantic Marinas took first place in the 2008 Regatta for the NMHF Kids Set Sail youth sailing program. The regatta, founded 6 years ago by GEL and J World Annapolis, raised close to $62,000 which will fund program scholarships for over 425 children. The Brick Companies elected to have their boat crewed by students from the Kids Set Sail program. The combination of youth and experience seemed to do the trick and brought victory to the boat.
