On August 3rd the Buccaneer Class Association honored former Olympic sailor Harry Sindle of Gloucester, VA as a new lifetime class member. The ceremony took place at the Virginia Governors Cup Regatta, held at Harry's home sailing club, the Ware River Yacht Club. Before beginning his Buccaneer legacy Harry sailed for the USA in the Flying Dutchman class at the 1960 Olympic Games, won the Gold Medal at the 1959 Pan Am Games and was six time Flying Dutchman National Champion. In the Buccaneer Class Harry is a three time Buccaneer National Champion, four time chairman of the Buccaneer National Championships, former builder of the Buccaneer sail boat and author of the Buccaneer rigging and handling guide. Harry was presented with a plaque to celebrate his contribution to the class by Buccaneer Class Association Commodore David Spira. The Buccaneer class was also a winner at the Virginia Governor’s Cup for having the largest one design fleet on the start line. The fleet of 12 Buccaneers enjoyed close racing with David Spira, Rick Scarborough and Jeff Neurauter taking the first 3 places.
