Day One on Long Island sound. We promised close racing. Four points separate the top 5 boats. But close racing throughout the fleet with rugby scrums at the mark roundings. So far its been a blast. Westerly breezes coming down the sound 15 +/- knots. Big shifts upwind, so lots of tactical tacking. Ya Hooooo rides downwind searching to stay in the best pressure.
After the first three races, Barry Parkin from Hayling Island sailing Club (UK), recently moved to Riverside CT is leading closely followed by Brad Boston and Lee Shuckerow from Sarnia, Canada , then Brian Bennett (the designer of the Viper) and David Guggenheim...both originaly from New Zealand. Bennett/Guggenheim are tied for points with Justin Scott, Ben Moon, Peter Beardsley. In fourth is Jonathan Nye from co-host club Indian harbor. Today the wind will swing more to the North and we expect further close racing from these 21 foot high performance sportsboats.
