Inglewood Jack Sweeps Tartan 10 North American Championship (Mentor-on-the-Lake, OH) - Jeff Sampson’s Inglewood Jack won the 2009 Tartan 10 North Americans with a 31 point lead over second place finisher Ted Pinkerton’s Perfect. Hosted by Mentor Harbor Yachting Club on August 7 - 11, Inglewood Jack, from Sarnia Yacht Club, finished the 11 race series with a total of 37 points. Perfect, from Mentor Harbor Yacht Club, finished with 68 points. Scott Irwin racing Team IBall, from North Cape Yacht Club, finished third with 71 points. Sampson protected his significant lead by sailing conservatively on the last day of racing, with finishes of 7-10 to round out his series. Gary Disbrow from Vermilion, Ohio on Think Blue won the day with finishes of 1-3 to move up into 10th place overall. The sun shone on the 29 boat Tartan 10 fleet for the final day of racing at the North American Championship. Lake Erie provided light and variable west to northwest breeze to challenge the competitors for the final day, along with plenty of sunburn and biting flies, just to keep things interesting. Host Mentor Harbor Yacht Club provided excellent racing and a variety of onshore celebrations, including a Pirate Party on Sunday and a much welcomed pool on Monday for relief from the 90 degree heat. The Tartan 10 Class has a number of perpetual trophies awarded at the end of the championship. The Sparkman Stephens Performance Trophy for winning a race by the widest margin was awarded to Gary Disbrow and Think Blue of Vermilion Boat Club. The Charlie Britton Memorial Award was awarded to John Barker and Bear from Sandusky Sailing Club.
