The Sarcoma Cup was established by BeatSarcoma, Inc., a non-profit benefiting research into sarcoma (and closely related causes). The larger goals of the nonprofit are outlined on their website. The purposes of the Sarcoma Cup are: • Generate awareness of sarcoma issues • Raise funds for sarcoma research • Provide a high quality racing and onshore experience for participants The 2010 Sarcoma Cup will be held in the San Francisco central bay on Aug 28-29. This year's event is a joint effort between three yacht clubs: Berkeley Yacht Club (Race Committee and dockside facilities), Richmond Yacht Club (Race Committee and crash boats) and South Beach Yacht Club (Race crew and crash boat). It follows successful events in 2008 and 2009 on a similar race course. Onshore activities will also be similar. The Sarcoma Cup team welcome all one design fleets, PHRF/IRC racers and non spinnaker cruising sailors who just want to have a good time and serve a great cause. All details can be found here on Sarcoma Cup web site A Sarcoma Cup event was first held on San Francisco Bay in 2008. BeatSarcoma envisioned an event which would appeal to both ultra-competitive one design sailors and more casual family sailors who just want to get out on the water and show their support. We believe that it's possible to further a charitable cause in a highly efficient manner while still providing a great experience to participants and volunteers. The details of BeatSarcoma financial policies are spelled out on their website, but the short version for the Sarcoma Cup is:All net proceeds of this event go straight to the cause. There are no deductions for BeatSarcoma, Inc. corporate expenses such as salaries, stipends, etc. Event expenses do not include compensation of BeatSarcoma insiders for their time or efforts. Event and organization staff are volunteers. You can also take part in our fundraising competition (winning fundraiser with a minimum of $3,000 fundraised gets to meet Survivor winner Yul Kwon, second prize will get their sarcoma cup shirt signed by Yul and third prize will received a signed photo by Yul!) One last important thing: There will be free beer, free wine, free massage, free pastries, free coffee, etc... Thank
