FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The attracted 82 boats and various teams from visiting states 36th Annual presented by Audi Dillon, CO – June 1, 2009 – The 36th Annual Dillon Open Regatta held on Lake Dillon in Dillon, Colorado attracted eighty-two boats with crew this past weekend. The invitational regatta, with Audi as the presenting sponsor, proved its adversity once again with winds of 20+ knots, sunny days and white capped mountain peaks. The spectacular warm and luminous days brought challenging wind blasts over the mountains and kept sailor’s heads above the water. With a down economy and low attendance at other regional and national events, regatta organizers were very pleased with the turnout at the Dillon Open with teams visiting from California, Texas, Missouri, Minnesota, New Mexico and Utah. Final results are posted on www.dillonopen.com . Not only did the Dillon Open introduce a great new sponsor (Audi) to the sport of sailing in Colorado, but is also proved serious competition, great sailing skills and challenging conditions. This was also the first year to host the Junior Tour, which is creating a fan base to the sport of sailing amongst the new generation of sailors. The Junior Tour at Lake Dillon was the 3rd circuit stop in the state of Colorado. Throughout this summer, the Junior’s have been competing in venues such as Chatfield Reservoir, Cherry Creek Reservoir and Union Reservoir. The top three Junior competitors were Jordan Nelson and Ben Schofield from the Dillon Yacht Club Jr. Sailing Program and Ana Maloff from Chatfield Reservoir. The Dillon Yacht Club (DYC), founded in 1968, is the nation's highest yacht club at 9,017 feet above sea level. The Dillon Open Regatta is one of the most unique sailing regattas in the world and draws sailors from various states to compete in the challenging conditions of Lake Dillon. The highly competitive nature of this regatta hosts seven fleets of one-design boats to participate in this sailing event. Colorado has no shortage of top contenders, the Dillon Yacht Club is proud to claim several of its members as winners of this year’s Dillon Open Regatta. Proceeds from the Dillon Open Regatta have allowed the DYC Junior Sailing Program to increase their operations with the purchase of a new building, new boats, the flexibility to hire top youth instructors, and to fund scholarships for financially disadvantaged area youth. "The Community Sailing Program provides a life-changing experience for these kids who would otherwise not have an opportunity to learn about sailing and being part of a team,” said Frank Keesling, Board of Directors for DYCJSP. “When you see the determination in a young sailor’s eyes, you know they are learning a sport they will pursue with passion and drive.” About the Dillon Yacht Club The Dillon Yacht Club is a group of sailing enthusiasts who have joined together to promote the sport of sailing, sailboat racing, and fellowship among sailors on Lake Dillon. We depend on members volunteering their time to help organize and carry out club activities and we expect each member to actively participate. We actively seek new members with an interest in sailing to join our club and accept members regardless of age, sex, race, color, or religion. About Dillon Junior Sailing Program The DYC Junior Sailing Program was founded in 2002. The school was developed to provide a recreational and educational program for youth to develop fundamental sailing skills, teamwork, strategy and safety through one week courses held during the summer months. The program's focus is to foster a strong local sailboat education program while providing an "always safety first" curriculum for area youth. The growing program serves Summit County, the Western Slopes and the Denver Front Range area with youth between the ages of 10 to 18 years. About Audi Audi’s history is one of the most many-faceted stories ever told in the history of the automobile in general. The Audi emblem with its four rings identifies one of Germany’s oldest-established automobile manufacturers. It symbolizes the amalgamation in 1932 of four previously independent motor-vehicle manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. These companies form the roots of what is today AUDI AG. Audi’s Denver dealers and Western Region is the presenting sponsor for this year's Dillon Open Regatta. Audi’s featured vehicle is the Q7 TDI crossover SUV. This clean-burning diesel engine makes a healthy amount of torque and not only does it have an improved overall fuel economy, but an increased range. # # # Contact: Vivian Keesling 303-870-6040 viviankeesling@yahoo.com
