Second Annual Buddy Melges Challenge Line-up Set

Sheboygan, Wis (September 1, 2010) Sixteen of the world’s best women’s match racing teams, representing nine countries, will compete in the second annual Buddy Melges Challenge in Sheboygan, Wisconsin USA. The Challenge will be held from September 8 to 12. The US Sailing Center Sheboygan will host the event using the Center’s fleet of Elliott 6m boats. The Elliott 6m is the boat selected for the Women’s Match Racing equipment in the 2012 Olympic Games, which will be held in Weymouth, England.

Topping the list of competitors is Anna Tunnicliffe from Plantation, Florida. Anna is currently ranked #3 on the international women’s match racing list. Also competing from the US are Wisconsin native, Sally Barkow (currently ranked 12th), Genny Tulloch (ranked 10th), Maegan Ruhlman (ranked 42nd) and collegiate newcomer to women’s match racing, Margaret Shea.

Australia is represented by 6th ranked skipper, Katie Spithill and 8th ranked Nicky Souter. Defending champion, Samantha Osborne (ranked 18th) will return from New Zealand. Making their first appearances in Sheboygan are Lotte Meldgaard from Denmark, Linda Rahm from Sweden, Mandy Mulder from the Netherlands, and Ru Wang from China. Brazil is represented by Juliana Senfft and Juliana Mota. This will be Mota’s first appearance in Sheboygan while Senfft has made several trips to Sheboygan over the past 2 years. Also returning to Sheboygan is Anne Marie Shewfelt from Canada. The final competitor is Canadian newcomer, Katie Abbott.

Race management will be led by Principle Race Officer, Dave Bronson from Sheboygan with sailing taking place Thursday through Sunday just yards off the beach in front of Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center. The US Sailing Center Sheboygan is very excited to be able to offer live streaming and tracking video of the races on its website: www.ussailingcentersheboygan.org. Learn about the newest sailing addition to the Olympic Games and watch excellent international teams compete for the Buddy Melges trophy.
