new rules wrt bouyancy verses pdf Log-In to Post/Reply

i am a round the cans yacht racer.

under the old rules if the y flag was flown i always opted to wear a Buoyancy Aid (50N foam)rather than a horse shoe pdf (150N air inflated)which complied with the rules. i find that pfd's get in the way and ofter lead to getting trapped in the life lines. i had a friend who was on a boat that Chinese jibed and the boat was laid flat. he got stuck on the wrong side and his pfd inflated pinning him. had he not had a knife on him to burst the pfd he could of been in serious trouble.
for offshore or night/passage making i am very happy to wear a pfd. however with round the can's racing can be quite intense and of short duration i prefer to wear a BA.

My question is if i continue to wear a BA instead of a pfd will i be in breech of the regulations if the Y flag is flown?
I have examined the rules and i fail to see any definition of what is a pfd.

egarly awaiting your thoughts

Atilla
