Will Cayard eat his words? Log-In to Post/Reply

Paul Cayard appears to be the spokesman for the VOR in their attempt to put a happy face on the race. Hopefully he believes everything he is telling us, which is basically that the boats are great, there have beens some trials, but by "June this period will be a forgotten blip on the radar screen." I particularly liked his quote of how his desire to straighten out with the public some misconceptions about the Volvo Ocean Race began with a similar conversation with his wife. I bet she wanted the facts too.

Personally, it is hard to believe that the problems thus far can be stopped so suddenly.

Cayard has proably a million dollars in salary and his reputation as a yachtsman (worth more over his career) on the line. certainly he's gonna talk the party line.

i think that a lot is being made of nothing. the boat are getting better as they go around and we will all be better off. stuff happens on boats. the teams pushed the envelope and pushed to hard. they are modifying the boats accordingly. that's what happens on all the around alone races. stuff is dangerous. but w get all kind of cool improvvements in technology and find out what doesn't work.Mad
Sail Often and have fun

Well, Cayard almost didn't have to eat his words, but with the necessary abandonement of movistar, it looks like he will. Of course, in defense of Cayard, he could not have anticipated this slipshod effort, and their cavalier attitiude toward preventative maintanence.
