Want to crew on a maxi in the Sydney to Hobart? Log-In to Post/Reply

The maxi yacht, Brindabella, is looking for Sydney to Hobart crew for this year's big race. Brindabella is arguably Australia's most famous yacht and she still holds the record for Hobart for a conventionally ballasted boat. You will need to have some offshore experience and there is a crew fee that covers all yacht costs, insurance, race entry, accom, food etc as well as training days before the race. For more information, checkout http://www.brindabellayachtracing.com/

Interesting. History has proven this to often be a very risky race, Seems one would want ONLY the very best crew available, not people who just pay to go as if on a luxury liner...for safety alone they
should be bringing in pros, not the other way around! Seems backwards to me and possibly a dangerous precedent to set.

There will be at least 6-10 pro sailors on board and all crew are required to have offshore sailing experience - people "who just pay to go as if on a luxury liner" need not apply. It is not uncommon for people to pay their way and or share costs to crew in this race and other equally risky races in the northern hemisphere. There are a number of other boats that head to Hobart each year that have crew positions available under similar arrangements. Yes, this race is tough but provided you have offshore experience, take all precautions, work as a team and follow instructions from your skipper, the risks are substantially reduced.
