http://www.surfline.com/surfline/forecasts4/forecast_blog_entry.cfm?id=27807&flush=true Update: Strong storm equals surf, but slams sailboat race to Bermuda Any updated news on the sailboat race heading to Bermuda? Ouch... From the latest report the lead boats now experiencing 27-40 knot+ South winds and 12-20 foot seas during the last 100 miles to Bermuda. That's coming from right where they want to go and is a miserable situation for any sailboat, especially those under 45 feet. The leading boat for the whole race has been Big Bear which is a high tech racing sailboat about 65 feet long I think. Unfortunately the word this morning is that they must have had significant damage to the boat from the increasing winds and seas last night because they are trying to motor in to Bermuda now and are now about 45 miles away. Many of the following boats in the middle and rear of the fleet have not yet ventured far enough to experience the strong south winds and seas. Hopefully it will lay down a bit before they get there but it's still going to be very, very rough over the next 24-36 hours. Sean...
