Summer Sailstice: What did you do June 17-18? Log-In to Post/Reply

I was curious what the 'buttheads did for the Summer Sailstice sailing celebration this weekend. I know some were on their way to Bermuda, but how about you?

Didn't know about Summer Sailstice? Here are the details: http://www.summersailstice.com

We're doing a club race at Coronado Yacht Club on Saturday. It's the 3rd race in the Wellington Series--starting at the club docks, sailing out Glorietta Bay, the under the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and up off the USS Nimitz, Then back down under the bridge into the South Bay, and finishing back at the club docks in Glorietta Bay.

The series has been raced continuously at CYC since the early thirties...

Going to join my pals on a Flying Scot for a sail in Kentucky. You know how many folks fit on a Flying Scot? Plenty. Anybody got the phone number for the Guiness Book of World Records? We might need it.

I took a bunch of kids sailing on a Catalina 25 on the Mississippi River. They were all first time sailors and learned the meaning of heal over. It was a blast-great winds in the midwest over the weekend.

WINNER!

Had a glamour weekend sailing in the XXXX Gold Cup in Brisbane on Moreton Bay - Australia.

What made it even better was taking home the cup after 2 days of racing in the rain.

Time to select a winner. Here are the candidates:

* Watch a little San Francisco Speed Week, then anchor at Treasure Island Sailing Center for afternoon Mount Gay party and tunes from the Cow Bay Cruz Boys.

* Doing a club race at Coronado Yacht Club that’s been going on since the thirties which passes thru the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and up off the USS Nimitz.

* Stacking a Flying Scot to seek either seek Guinness Book of World Records for most people, or to just drink a lot of Guinness.

* Hanging with the DCYC Commodore at the 3rd annual Deep Creek YC raft-up in Dead Horse Bay, Brooklyn NY!

* Helping out at a racing clinic for our sailing youth in Newport, RI;

* Taking a bunch of kids sailing on a Catalina 25 on the Mississippi River who hadn’t sailed before.

* Having a glamour weekend sailing in the rain at the XXXX Gold Cup in Brisbane on Moreton Bay - Australia.

Since we had no stated rules for winner selection, we are winging it here this morning. All good candidates that were all bringing elements that we could appreciate: We love Mount Gay Rum, we love Coronado (great YC bar), we have previously enjoyed stacking folks into a F/S, we are intrigued by any raft up that occurs in a place called Dead Horse Bay, we are all for those that help teach kids, particularly those that grab newbies for a Midwest sail. Of course, then there is the entry from Live-Sail-Die in Australia… enough said. In the end, we went with Mississippi River sail, as that seemed to best embody the spirit of Summer Sailstice, though we gave serious consideration to sucking up to the Commodore from Deep Creek YC. Thanks for all the comments.
