Interesting situation going on. As surfers, we often don't relate to what happens in a storm far out to sea that produces surf along our shores. Sailors often end up in the middle of these storms and give us the opportunity to experience what really happens in these storms out to sea. We currently have a developing storm off the East coast that promises to bring surf to many areas. Surfline's east coast forecasters will have the complete details on the surf forecast. There's also a sailboat race from Massachusetts to Bermuda that began on Friday. They ran into this same developing storm yesterday and last night with gale force winds out of the northwest, which wasn't too bad because they were going with the wind and seas. One of the relatives of a small boat emailed last night pleading for help with a special weather forecast that we emailed back. We suggested if it's a very small boat like they indicated, that they might want to turn back because it appeared the storm was going to get a lot worse before it gets better. There's some really cool plotting and tracking going on with the race at iBoat Track and the boats have tracking devices and report on the wind conditions. Some boats have already turned back due to the developing storm.
