Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta Series Unveils 2011 Schedule Log-In to Post/Reply

The largest and most storied sailboat racing tour in the United States, the Sperry Top-Sider National Offshore One Design (NOOD) Regatta series, announced today the dates and locations of its 2011 schedule. The 24th annual series will embark on an eight-city tour throughout the United States, culminating with its championship event, held in the British Virgin Islands.

The Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta series will begin the 2011 season on Tampa Bay, just offshore of St. Petersburg, Fla., on Feb. 18-20. Following the St. Petersburg NOOD Regatta, the series will go on a seven-event odyssey throughout the country before finishing the season July 28-31 in the greater Boston area of Marblehead, Mass.

Between St. Petersburg and Marblehead, the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta series will make stops in San Diego, Calif., Annapolis, Md., Seattle, Wash., Detroit, Mich., Chicago, Ill., and San Francisco, Calif.

The overall winner from each of the eight stops will be invited to the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD regatta championship in the British Virgin Islands to compete aboard Sunsail 39s against the other overall winners in the 2011 series.

Last year, skipper Steve Lopez and his St. Petersburg NOOD Regatta winning crew took home the 2010 Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta championship title.

Created by Sailing World in 1988, the NOOD series attracts nearly 2,000 boats and more than 30,000 competitors and spectators annually. Each event in the series features multiple days of sailboat racing for one-design models from 20 to 70 feet in length. In addition to local sailors, sailing’s top stars — including America’s Cup and Olympic champions — are well-represented at the NOODs. Competitive sailors rate the NOODs as the top national event in each region of the country.
