FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ISSA NAMES NEW PRESIDENT

Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) elected a new President this past weekend at the Annual General Meeting in Chicago with Don Shea (Chicago, IL) taking the reins. Tim Hogan (Newport Beach, CA) stepped down after 5 years in which ISSA saw an increase in the number of registered teams and improvement in the quality of Championships. Hogan was happy with the progress that ISSA made stating, “We have been instrumental in bringing in more volunteers to help run the Association and getting more people involved, which has helped youth sailing across the country.”

Hogan began his volunteer time with High School sailing with the Pacific Coast 20 years ago. Seeing a need for the gap between prams and college, Hogan was instrumental in starting the CFJ class, which became the high school boat starting with 9 schools in California. Last year the PCISA registered over 90 schools in the district. During his tenure, he also orchestrated purchasing 50-60 suits of sails for the PCISA through the Roy Disney CISA (California International Sailing Association) Fund. The sails are used at all major PCISA regattas.

Stepping in as the new President is Don Shea who was instrumental in increasing the Midwest Interscholastic Sailing Association membership over the past several years which now covers 7 states. Shea was enthusiastic with goals for ISSA’s future to include “continuing the growth of high school sailing, bringing more students into the sport, and supporting the many volunteers across the country that make high school sailing a wonderful team sport.”

The Interscholastic Sailing Association is organized to encourage and promote the sport of sailing and sailboat racing among high schools. Organized into 7 Districts, more close to 400 schools compete annually in events across the country. ISSA holds annual National championships in singlehanded, double handed and team racing to determine the year’s best sailors while each District holds numerous events throughout the season.
