Interesting... abandoned sailboat discovered by USN Log-In to Post/Reply

'Oh Lord, thy ocean is so vast, and my boat is so small'...

I was browsing the militarytimes.com 'Scoop Deck' blog and found this article. Take a few minutes to read it... it's quite interesting.

http://militarytimes.com/...-abandoned-sailboat/

The USS Cole found an abandoned sailboat adrift in the Atlantic. The Cole launched a boarding party, but was unable to ascertain what happened to the vessel, and more importantly, what happened to its crew. So, what do you think could have happened? Did the crew simply abandon? The dinghy is still lashed forward, but what of a (inflatable?) liferaft? Was the crew washed overboard and lost? Did the boat break loose and manage to run adrift all the way into the middle of the ocean? But the sails are somewhat rigged, as the article points out, and what boat would break loose with a partial-rig? It's a thinker... kind of makes you glad (as glad as you can be, I suppose) to be derigging for the winter...

Surely someone researched the boat's registry, found a hull number, to find out who the owner was... Declared missing? Stolen boat?
