How can I stop my boat from sinking?
Hi all,

We are planning a voyage where the possibility of hull punctures are very real! I wanted to ask everyones opinion on techniques and equipment we should have on board to respond to a small to large hull puncture. I have heard of people using wet cure epoxy, cushions, sails any suggestions???

When we sailed Transatlantic, the boat carried a "crash mat" in case of major leaks. It was essentially a heavy piece of triangular canvas or sailcloth with grommets along the outside edges and lines attached to the corners. In the event of being stove in, the idea was to be able to position the material over the hole and cinch it up tight against the hole, slowing the leak so as to make it manageable. We never used it for that, but it could also have served as a nice riding sail while at anchor.

Depending on how big your hole is, we have always carried several sticks of emergency epoxy putty which sticks to anything and cures fast, even underwater.

There is only way to save your boat from sinking, is check is there any leakage in your boat or if you find any leakage while sailing first try to stop that. Keep come near to the beach as early as possible.
