Is that a faint bit of light, at the end of the tunnel?
Maybe we are finally going to see an end to the America's Cup DoG farce after all.
If the DoG match comes to Australia, Port Phillip in Victoria is the only suitable place to hold this event in February,
Warm weather, 700 square miles of relatively sheltered water, light morning breezes and the sports mad Olympic City of Melbourne.
There is already America's Cup history on Port Phillip. Australia II and Challenge 12 spent 4 months training there before moving to Newport R.I. in 1983.
No need to bring the giant multi hulls. If Russell Coutts and Ed Baird are fair dinkum about racing, they can fight it out in dinghies off Sorrento. The DoG match will be quick and inexpensive.
I'll even up my original offer. I'll pay for lunch for both of them afterwards.
Put this sorry event behind, then we can get back to America's Cup.

Agree Port Phillip would be ideal.

A honking arvo sea-breeze would be better, like the VO70 in-port was.

But these boats would not handle that so would need to be mornings as you say.
