Re: [IL1270] In Need of a New Website [In reply to] Log-In to Post/Reply

Please check out our new website at www.easternyc.org I am the RC chair, and do all of my own updates to news, regatta results, etc. It is incredibly easy and intuitive. This season, we had online registration for regattas and social events. For next season, we are looking to add online bill review and payment. I highly recommend Blake Jackson of Headway Consulting. He can be emailed at bjackson@headwayconsulting.com

We have used http://www.dotnetnuke.com/ for our site (www.onelink.net) and for our clients. I have not done much with our site so it is not a great example but this open source platform will do all that you are looking for and more. I would be happy to have our developer answer questions on Monday when we get back in the office so that we can point you in the right direction. Happy Thanksgiving

Pegasus Website Design is a small website design company that has produced other yacht club websites. We can offer you many customized features that specifically address your needs as a yacht club at a cost that may be lower than you realize. These features could include a club newsletter, a calendar of events, event registration, email distribution lists, and many more. All of our sites are easy to update even for people with limited computer knowledge. To discuss your needs in detail with no obligation please contact us at 401-473-7113. If you would like a testimonial of our work please contact Shelter Island Yacht Club and they will be glad to describe to you in detail what we have done for them.

Hi IL1270,

Give me a call if you still need help. I'd be glad to help. Done a few different club's web sites and many sailing related sites some of which I own - www.regattadates.com, www.yachtscoring.com, www.us-irc.org, www.byc.com and many others.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Hello! You could try the editor of the European Scuttlebutt newsletter who also happens to be a designer/builder of user friendly sailing websites (eg www.rorc.org) his address is editor@scuttlebutteurope.com.

Best wishes,

It looks like you may have already found what you need, but just in case, I may have an answer. As you mentioned, you're not looking for custom design, but a platform for your own website management. I run the sailing website Sailgroove.org and we sell our platform to yacht clubs and other sailing organizations. You can find examples at http://www.sailgroove.org/sc/network.

Our system allows multiple admins (club officers) to log in from anywhere in the world and make changes, without messing up the whole site. Utilities include: news articles, blogs, videos, photos, schedule, forums and events. You can also choose to allow general members to add content or comments. I don't know if you are familiar with Sailgroove, but the other feature of our platform is that you can import any of our thousands of sailing videos for use on your site, in seconds, at no extra cost.

As far as databasing services like member directory and event registration, we don't offer them yet, but third party services should be very easy to incorporate into a site built on our platform.

If you are interested, please contact me and we can discuss details.
