The St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco, CA, seeks a Race Director to lead an established team of professionals in providing a high-level race experience to both members and guests, at a venue that is among the most beautiful and challenging in the world.

The following Position Description is intended to provide the applicant a sense for the scope of responsibility entailed. The following listing of responsibilities has been condensed for this posting and may be expanded or adjusted according to the capabilities of the successful candidate.

Position: Race Director


· College Degree
· World Sailing or US Sailing Race Management Certification
· Experience working with volunteers
· Experience managing high performing staff
· Experience running a yacht club race or junior program
· Experience working with World Sailing/US Sailing/International Class Associations
· Experience working with Coast Guard/Government organizations
· Eligibility to work in USA

Position Reports to: Chief Operating Officer/General Manager

Key Positions Reporting to Race Director:

· Race Coordinator
· Junior Sailing Director
· Waterfront Director

Summary of Responsibilities:

Regatta Management
o Helps develop and maintains Master Race Calendar
o Race Document development/management
o Provides support & direction to StFYC volunteer Principal Race Officers/Regatta Chairs, maintaining quality standards for all StFYC on the water Race Management
o Develops and maintains regatta budgets
o Maintains relations with Harbormaster, Vessel Traffic and USCG
o Oversee equipment preparation (competitor, race management, safety)
o Coordinates applicable permitting and social elements related to events (food & beverage/ awards)
o Organizes travel, housing and reimbursement for visiting officials (IRO, IJ, IM, IU)

Volunteer Management
o Develop, implement and maintain training programs for volunteer race staff: Safe Powerboat, Race Management, Mark Set, annual orientation
o Manage regular communication with volunteers: Newsletter, CERVIS
o Help develop on-going education tracks and mentoring programs for Race Management, Judges, Umpires and trainers in all disciplines
o Plan programs to recognize accomplishments of club volunteers

Asset Management
o Maintain the Race Department’s 20-year capital asset replacement plan
o Oversee the ongoing maintenance of the club’s floating assets, to include RC signal boats, various work RIBs, fleet of J/22 race boats and dinghies

o Responsible for generating department budget each year with assistance & input from ERC & Junior Committee Chairs.
o Responsible for generating a capital budget each year with assistance and input from ERC and Junior committee chairs.
o Responsible for monitoring monthly budget variances in each of the above-mentioned departments and for meeting annual budget

Other Significant Responsibilities:
o Assist the Executive Race Committee in the production of our Grade 1 events and other championship level race activities
o Oversee the activities of our Junior Sailing program, which includes High School, youth sailing, summer camps both in SF and the Tinsley Island out station.
o Work with regional, national & international organizations to help bring grade 1 events to StFYC
o Serve as staff coordinator of fulfillment for regatta sponsor relationships
