New Bedford Yacht Club is seeking a Dock Master

REPORTS TO: General Manager
SUPERVISES: Launch Operators, Fuel Dock Attendants, Dock Personnel

The Dockmaster is the ambassador of the NBYC waterfront. He or she is responsible for the management and daily operations of the Yacht Club's Launch and Fuel services. The Dockmaster will oversee the daily operation of the club's Launches, Fuel Dock and Lift Service. In addition, the Dockmaster will provide support to the maintenance staff projects, and manage member use of kayaks, paddle boards and keel boats.
Ensure that members, their guests and visiting Yachtsmen are provided with best-in-class launch and fuel service.
Coordinate mooring assignments for visiting yachtsmen and club visits. Continue to streamline the mooring reservation process.
Oversee the safe, efficient and economical operation of the Club's waterfront and Launch facilities. Participate actively in carrying out this objective. Oversee the safe usage of the waterfront by members and guests.
Hire, train, schedule and supervise all waterfront staff. Conduct pre-season and on-going training with a focus on providing exemplary service to the membership.

Provides assistance to members and guests in getting underway and mooring their boats in accordance with the rules and etiquette of good seamanship.
Ensure that all licenses, permits and registrations are up to date on Fuel Dock and Launch boats as well as required certifications and testing for all Gas attendants and Launch operators. Creates and conducts yearly training sessions at start of season, and as necessary throughout season.
Schedules all personnel (launch drivers, fuel attendants) associated with Waterfront services. Creates monthly schedule in advance, posts and distributes to all staff, posts schedule on server and forwards copy in advance to General Manager.
Maintain a list of members subscribing to launch service, provide updated lists to waterfront staff and submit billing to Accounting Department.
Update the slip assignment list daily, and delivery a Notice of Slip Openings to eligible members. Send out slip contracts on October 1st. Maintain files for each dock ensuring necessary insurance papers and contracts for each boat are on hand. Submit yearly, daily and monthly slip rental usage to accounting.
Maintain a current database and waiting list for each dock.
Act as the primary individual in carrying out the management, maintenance and repair of Club waterfront facilities and vessels.
Inspect, maintain and manage the clubs docks, floats, ice machines, gas pumps and tanks. Ensures staff keeps area clean and free of trash.
Purchases fuel, oil and supplies as needed for waterfront operations.
Calculates and notifies Accounting department about dockage charges.
Performs emergency duties in the event of hurricane, fire, accident or other disaster. Prepares for storms.
Keeps entire marina operational and in meticulous shape. Assures all areas are maintained and cleaned from floating wood, trash, droppings, etc. The dock, launch area, fuel area should have a professional and clean look.
Maintains records of hours worked by all employees and submits to accounting department for payroll purposes. Manages overtime per policy.
Plans and implements seasonal start-up and seasonal shut-down activities for dock area. Oversees hauling, launching & lift.
Ensures American flag and Club burgee are raised at required time and removed at sunset (post colors) on both launches;
Reports any misconduct of members, guests, or crew members taking place in the harbor areas or club grounds.
Attends staff and department meetings.
Review yearly with General Manager and staff the club's Hurricane Preparedness Plan.
Work NBYC race events, including but not limited to Wednesday Night Racing, Regattas, NBJR, BBR, Holiday Races and club social events as needed.
Assist club Maintenance staff as needed.
Assists Race Committee relative to race starts, marks, trophies, burgees, etc.
Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the General Manager and/or Commodore.

40 hours per week (minimum) and schedule changes throughout the season. Must be flexible with schedule and work weekends and holidays as necessary.

High School diploma required, Advanced Degree preferred
US Coast Guard Service desirable.
One to two years of experience working at a public marina or a yacht club required.
Experience with hiring, training and supervising launch operators in season recommended.
Ability to work independently, as part of a team and well under pressure. Able to multi-task in a busy environment. Must have good interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills
Experience maintaining and repairing boat slips, dinghy lines, moorings, ladders, hoists, floats and lockers highly recommended.
Able to supervise and maintain club launches and various work boats.
Can properly moor water crafts in accordance with the rules and etiquette of good seamanship.
Operates the ship-to-shore radio equipment in accordance with rules and procedures set forth by the Federal Communications Commission.
Maintain a clean and orderly dock.
Expertise with lashing and knot-tying.
Know how to raise and lower flags on a flagpole;
Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations.

USCG Launch License
Fork Lift Certification desirable, but will train.
Certified Marina Managers (CMM) or Certified Marina Operators (CMO) certification is not required but desired
Boat Maintenance and Engine repair knowledge
Sailboat Rigging experience a plus
Experience with Fuel Dock operation
Ability to bend, crouch, stoop, climb, twist and lift and move up to 60 lbs
Ability to work outdoors under all temperatures and weather conditions.
Able to stand for long periods of time
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment, which is typical of this position.
Perform all duties and services required of harbor personnel in a safe, courteous, efficient and professional manner at all times.
