Sailing Director
The Stonington Harbor Yacht Club (SHYC) is located on the Southeastern shore of Connecticut along Fisher’s Island Sound, at the mouth of the Stonington Harbor. SHYC’s fleet includes: (7) Optimists, and (3) 420s. SHYC also offers occasional adult sailing instruction aboard our fleet of (6) Ideal 18s. Our fleet of motorboats include an 18’ Dauntless Whaler, 18’ Key West, and a small RIB.
In 2018 we partnered with neighboring NESS (New England Science & Sailing) to run our Junior Sailing Programs. After a successful partnership last year, we will continue with that program in 2019.

-Seasonal position, primarily half-day working hours, generally from 1 PM to 5 PM. This is a minimum part-time position with opportunities to work additional hours, mostly weekdays with some evenings and weekends as needed.
-Act as the staff liaison with NESS, helping families with enrollment, encouraging participation in programs and regattas, providing feedback to families.
-One-on-one sailing instruction for both children and adults, including coaching for Wednesday Night Harbor Racing, Junior Regattas, Ideal 18 Certification and Instruction.
-Encourage new member families to get out on the water, increasing usage of our Ideal 18 fleet
-Organize and promote at least 2 summer club sailing events targeting families. e.g., fun race with dock-side starts, a leg sailing backwards, build a craft out of duct tape and cardboard, etc.
-Manage, train and schedule dockhands.
-Manage power fleet (fueling, wash down, routine maintenance, etc.) as well as the Ideal 18 sailboat fleet.
-Provide weekly report of activities and upcoming objectives.
-Report to SHYC General manager.

Qualifications: US Sailing Certification. Level 1 (minimum), Level 2 preferred.
