The Chicago Yacht Club is looking to hire a full time, year-round High Performance/Head Coach to grow the Sailing School’s programs throughout the year. Chicago Yacht Club’s Sailing School has been named one of the top programs in the country, and is lucky to have a tremendous amount of support from its community to maintain that status.

We are fortunate to have an extensive fleet of boats includes 30 Club 420s, 24 Optimists and 18 Sail Cubes along with 12 RIBs for coaching. The marine assets are on a rotating schedule so that we always have the newest equipment which is kept in great condition despite almost year-round use.

During the winter months, we take various teams to Florida for the juniors’ racing circuit, and work to organize and promote our programs and maintain our assets. The program supports a large amount of travel for our young sailors, providing opportunities for them to gain a wider range of racing experiences available throughout the country.

General Job Description
The High Performance/Head Coach is responsible for the daily activities of the Youth advanced sailing/racing programs (including Varsity High School) that serve the membership of the Chicago Yacht Club.
Anticipated Schedule.

Shoulder Seasons:

January – February- Schedule, Market and Coach winter sailing in warmer climates, provide/create opportunities for our Youth sailors to train and compete in warmer climates. Time off for personal sailing
Nov- December- Plan, pack up and move fleet to warmer training/sailing venues. Organize and manage winter sailing for Youth Racing team.

March- Early November
Tuesday Match racing (participate as much as you can provided this does not interfere with coaching schedule)
Tuesday-Thursday Plan and execute High School sailing (March-May, Sept-early November)
Summer race team practice and travel.
Wed High School and Youth Advanced Racing
Friday night team racing (participate as availability allows)

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Administration and marketing:

• Will help promote the enrollment process for all Youth Racing programs to achieve a high level of enrollment in every offered category.
• Work with the Sailing School Director and On Water Director to compile and manage budget such that the budget is balanced for Youth Racing (including High School sailing) Program.
• Ensure all billing and credit card statements are reconciled in a timely manner and adhere to the schedule set forth by the accounting office.
• Work with the Sailing School Director and Belmont Assistant in conjunction with Communication Director to maintain a web site and newsletter which function for the purposes of the Youth Racing program. This includes registration and payment for programs as well as other functions as deemed necessary.

High School Sailing:
• Ensure that all related equipment is in working order and usable for program each spring and during the year.
• Plan for and attend regular meetings, act as professional staff point of contact.
• Create appropriate High School and High-Level sailing schedule, that will create excitement within membership.
• Work with the club staff and members to maintain a code of conduct for program participants.
• Assist with finding volunteer assistants for Sailing School activities as needed.
• Communicate with MISSA and ISSA to organize regattas and improve the sailing in the district.
• Organize on the water coaching and moving of equipment according to the needs of the program.

High Performance Sailing:
• Work with our Elite Sailing Director to create new programs that will attract and retain membership. Some examples are, ODP clinics (hosting), Optimist National Team (hosting), Attending ODP clinics with CYC Sailors.
• Organize and supervise the hosting of High Level youth clinics and regattas.
• Introduce new boats and training platform to Chicagoland sailors.
