The College of Charleston Dock Master position

The College of Charleston is accepting applications for the position of Dock Master/Assistant Coach. This is a 12 month staff position which includes a comprehensive benefits package.

The Dock Master is responsible for maintaining the facility and the fleets of boats (42 sailboats and 5 powerboats) at the College of Charleston Stewart Walker Sailing Center. He/She will organize all repairs and the purchase of necessary parts and supplies needed to maintain the facility. The Dock Master will hire, train and supervise the dock attendant staff of approximately 4 people.

The Dock Master will also hire the instructors for adult non-credit classes, teach two PEHD classes (2-3 hour classes) per semester and train instructors for the remaining five classes. He/She will ensure all the necessary instructional aids and textbooks are available for all classes taught at the College sailing facility.

The Dock Master will assist in traveling with the college sailing team as an assistant coach as needed. (Approximately 4 weekends a semester)

The Dock Master will periodically help with community sailing activities such as the US Sailing Championships held in the College’s boats and on site.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree; US Sailing Level One (or equivalent); First Aid accreditation; skills in a small boat rigging and repair; basic outboard engine maintenance; overall ability to maintain the sailing program’s sailing center and docks is required; Experience in coaching at the college level is preferred.

The candidate must adhere to the College of Charleston Athletics Department and appropriate NCAA, US Sailing, ICSA, SAISA regulations and policies. The candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational, communication and managerial skills and provide references to reinforce.
