JOB TITLE: Assistant High School Sailing Coach REPORTS TO: Ed Stacy, Head High School Sailing Coach LOCATION: The Gangplank Marina, 600 Water St. SW, Washington DC, 20024 STANDARD HOURS: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3:30-6:30 / March 1 – May SUPERVISES: High School Sailors CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time WAGE: $10 an hour, depending on experience level PURPOSE: To provide facilities, equipment and professional coaching to interested high school students who live in the Washington DC region. This program offers High Schools a ready made framework for starting or maintaining both Varsity and Junior Varsity competitive sailing teams. Sailors will practice drills, tactical discussions and rules situations to prepare them for interscholastic competition. GENERAL DESCRIPTION/DUTIES: The coach will instruct high school students from DC-area schools in a fleet of eight Flying Juniors. Sailors range from the intermediate to advanced level in sailing ability. Responsibilities include preparing for and conducting after school practice and giving constructive feedback to sailors during practice. Weekly lesson plans will be developed and conducted with adjustments made for weather variables, students’ progress, and unforeseen problems. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: FJ or 420 Racing Experience US Sailing Level 1 Certification US Sailing Safe Power Boating Current CPR/First Aid The hours are 3:30 pm-6:30pm three - five days a week and some weekends depending on the regatta schedule. Some traveling may be required over certain weekends for regattas. Applicants with FJ experience, U.S. Sailing Level One, U.S. Sailing Safe Power Boating, and current CPR/First Aid preferred.
